【12×12】The Studio Challenges / Cut files and Die cuts

I made this layout for The Studio Challenges’ November challenge. The guideline is to use cuts files and die cuts. I cut some hearts from my Silhouette Cameo and wanted to use both positive and negative sides of the four heart shaped die-cuts so that I wouldn’t waste any scraps. In this way, I will have four hearts. Interestingly once I decided to do so, I quickly had an idea about my layout by simply placing these hearts on the background paper. The page was full immediately and I felt that the job is half done, which is of course not true. I ended up spending time selecting the embellishments to decorate the hearts and embossing the small parts of …

【12×12】Hip Kit Club / Hello

A new layout following Hip Kit Club’s weekly sketch challenge. This sketch looks quite simple, which however offers many possibilities. I took two of my wedding photos in Taiwan back to 2015. As I have many wedding photos to scrap, it was quite difficult to select just two in the beginning. But again, I remind myself of being simple, so I kind of selected two photos randomly among a great pile of photos. The focus is to find two small photos, so that I can match the sketch. Once the photos were selected, the rest came quite easily. When I saw this sketch for the first time, I was attracted immediately by the irregular frame around the photos. I have …

【12×12】Hip Kit Club / US

I haven’t been scrapbooking since Ambroise starts moving around in the appartment. During the past few months, I just hid my scrapbooking supplies in different drawers so that they won’t be “eaten” by Ambroise. Somehow I want to restart scrapbooking because I do miss it a bit. However it is not easy to see all my stuffs scattering/ hidden everywhere. I tried to keep my mindset simple and think about scrapbooking simply and it should be so. One night when Ambroise was asleep and I was not that tired. I took out a photo that I would like to scrap and with the help of Hip Kit Club’s weekly Facebook sketch challenge,  here we go. Here is the sketch that …

【12×12】Transparencies / Osaka

Here is a layout I made during the weekend to participate in Moon Lee’s June 2018 Facebook challenge. The topic of this challenge is about “Transparencies”. It’s a great chance for me to use some transparent sheets that I’ve been hoarding for ….hmm forever I guess. After a small “shopping” in my stash, I pulled out all the items that I might want to put together on a layout. You can see some green, blue, yellow, red and orange. How to The start point is the 12″ transparent sheet from Fancy Paint back to “2007”. I did mention that I’ve kept some transparencies for a while, right? I focused on this fancy transparent sheet with bright blue and orange colors …

【12×12】Jot Magazine / Forever

I created this layout to participate in Jot Magazine June Mood board challenge. When I saw the mood board I couldn’t help but keep saying Wow Wow Wow in my mind. It is so beautiful and elegant. I told myself that I must do a layout about this color scheme. I firstly went through my patterned paper stash and found out a piece of paper featuring pink flowers that looked similar to the one shown in the image 7. I decided to keep my layout simple by focusing on this piece of paper. I used some gesso on the background paper and stamped some short messages around the photos. I chose two black and white 3″x4″ photos randomly and put …

【12×12】Paper Strips / Nijojo Kyoto

For this layout, I tried to focus on Paige Evans’ collections as much as possible. It is also created to participate in the biweekly challenge held by Happy Scrappy Place Facebook group. The rule is to “scraplift” Paige’s layout(s) to create a new one. I love the idea and have no problems at all to do so as I have already “scraplifted” many of her layouts. I firstly pulled out of my stash all of Paige’s collections and then cut off the paper strip of each pattern paper. I layered these strips to form a cross sign and had some washi tapes on the central part of the layout, where I decided to have my title. I chose two photos of …

【12×12】Hip Kit Club / Zong Zi

I created this layout for Hip Kit Club Friday challenge. Instead of following a sketch, the participants of this challenge need to do a “boys only” layout this week. I found a photo featuring Jé eating a Zong Zi when we visited my family in Taiwan years ago. I think it is a perfect picture to celebrate both Father’s Day in France and Duanwu Festival (Dragon Boat Festival) in Taiwan the day before yesterday and yesterday respectively. As to the design of this layout, I punched out two different sizes of circles out of some paper scraps I picked randomly without selecting particular colors. I just wanted to use up as much scrap papers as possible. Then I folded four …

【12×12】String Art / You are awesome

Here is a layout featuring string art of a big heart. For a person who doesn’t know how to sew with a sewing machine, do the string art with a template is by no means a great and effective way to create an easy but stunning layout. I bought this string art template long time ago and didn’t use it until I saw Paige Evans’ Facebook group Happy Scrappy Place challenge. This template is from Paige’s Fancy Free collection with Pink Paislee. The rule of this challenge is to create a layout with any heart design with Paige’s collection. What a great opportunity to use the template, right? In the beginning, I thought it was easy to finish the heart …

【12×12】Hip Kit Club / Love in the air

Here is a layout following Hip Kit Club’s June 8 sketch challenge. When I saw this sketch, I quickly chose the photo that I wanted to scrap and took out all the supplies I would like to use in just several minutes. I firstly placed all the scrap papers and embellishments on the background paper. This piece of paper is from Core’dinations’s “Sand it, Tear it, Emboss it” whitewash collection. When my temporary layout looked nice for me, I took everything out and started to work on the background with gesso and watercolor. Then I started to put back all the layers and embellishment according to the sketch. I tried to follow the sketch as much as possible, especially for …

【12×12】Hip Kit Club / That’s a good memory

I created this layout for Hip kit club’s June 1st Friday Sketch challenge. The following is the sketch I followed. This sketch is not easy for me as I spent some time in finding out the combination of different pieces of scrap paper. I hand cut some flowers and pink hearts and tried to place them according to the sketch. The title is from a project life card. I like to use ready-to-use title and project life card serves a good purpose. Here is the close-up featuring the cluster I created in the center of the layout. It is not easy to choose photos for this sketch. However, I managed to find out old photos of my trip to London …
